Reports:
Location: (Tower of the Art, Mid-Levels), Depths, Breland
Details: Kos found his way back to the party amidst the depths after filling out an extensive report here at headquarters. I requested that he send Rayan back to headquarters when he arrived. Bastion had found his way back to the party in the meantime; the shifter guide abandoned them during their rest. Once fully rested prepared, the party moved upwards into the tower. In doing so they discover the Tower in question is mostly in disrepair. Having to access higher levels of the tower in their exploration, they unfortunately travel through an arcane sentry room. The party defends themselves with little issue; no major injuries reported, however, I must speak with Bastion in regards to taking unnecessary risks when it comes to exposing himself to unknown levels of arcane energy.

Location: (The Tower of the Art, High Levels), Depths, Breland
Details: The Bad News moves from the arcane sentry room to the upper levels of the ruined tower, discovering an arcane workshop of a ghostly artificer, who took poorly to their presence. Nocturne and Kos attempted to parlay with the spirit, while the rest of the party simply tried to move through the room unharmed (save for Bastion, who, though he was not harmed in the process, made no effort to protect himself from the different devices). Negotiations broke down, however, when the spirit attacked the party leader, Kos. With that, Bastion tipped over one of the cauldrons filled with elemental substance in order to facilitate fighting. For the record I approve of this kind of improvisation. The spirit was soon dispersed, allowing the party to continue their search. Within the laboratory, they find notes in reference to the relic in question; apparently the spirit, Thagdal, had created it for an unknown client, but, it was claimed by a member of the Church of the Silver Flame some time ago. The party made their way out of the tower; no major injuries reported.

Date: Eyre 15th, 998 YK
Location: Highwall District Khyber’s Gate District, Sharn, Breland
Details: As rhe Bad News finds their way out of the Depths, they approach a guard tower leading back into Sharn proper, only to find themselves facing a number of members of the Deathsgate adventuring guild – amongst them, an adventurer named Flex Mentalo. Flex attempted to claim all the findings of S.P.I.R.E. rightfully belonging to Deathsgate, however, the Bad News didn’t feel like negotiations; a quick altercation broke out, ending in the death of one of the members of the Deathsgate guild, and the escape of Flex Mentalo himself. Leaving behind a couple of perplexing (and one explosive) notes, Flex was both cursed by some members of the Bad News, and considered for employment by others. Given the potential level for in-house conflict, I’ve decided to pass on perusing him for employment. No major injuries reported. Additionally, upon entering the city, the party was witness to (along with many residents of Khyber’s Gate) an apparent Draconic Prophecy: “The eyes of the city will stare down the sky itself.”

I’m up far too late again, working on D&D stuff, and I’m likely to regret it come the game tomorrow, but, I think, in the long-run, it’ll be worth it. That being said, figured I’d take a moment to let you know what I’ve been up to, and, what I haven’t.

Most notably, what I haven’t is the Perk Points system. I’ve yet to sit down and hash out the specifics, but, I may as well let you in as to what I’m thinking. For a small amount of points, you can store, effectively, a potion on the badge, and use it as a minor action – having your badge ever on hand, it removes the need to draw said potion, and might be a life-saver once or twice. Additionally, there will be daily and encounter communication powers you may be able to place on the badge, and, for a higher cost, even teleportation abilities. Again, however, the details are still being drawn out.

Having finally played the online campaign a little, I have to say I’m EXTREMELY impressed with Kloogewerks; it’s a slick little program (although I’m still confused by the penalty of -100 when you’re apparently out of range for certain attacks). In the course of the last few days, I’ve gotten more potential players for the game, making the player pool almost as large as the one in the Florida game.

Which brings me to another point; S.P.I.R.E. seems to be my most popular campaign to date, with, between the two games, a total of… god, 17 players. Obviously, we can’t seat them all at once, and don’t need to, as they’re split between two groups, but even when splitting them, sometimes there’s simply not enough room for everyone. So, I want to make it clear that if for whatever reason I have to push you aside for the sake of seating, it’s nothing personal. It’s just logistics.

Anyhow, I hope everyone’s having fun so far – it’s only been a total of 2, plus 1 session so far, but with the current setup, I don’t see myself getting burnt out anytime soon. So, here’s hoping we can take this all the way to the epic levels; who knows what might await you there. Well, I do, but, I ain’t tellin’.

Client: (name withheld)
Details: (withheld)

Reports:
Date: Eyre 12th, 998 YK
Location: Fallen District, Sharn, Breland
Synopsis of Risk: S.P.I.R.E. groups (space held for group call-signs, as of yet unassigned) cooperated in the last leg of their investigation for (name withheld). Agents used ambush tactics to confront the now identified thieves of (name withheld)’s possessions [a flying elemental vessel that also served as (name withheld)’s stage, as well as a manuscript]. The Meanwhiles assisted (call-sign) in their ambush of the Macabre Theatre, and witnessed the crash of client’s property. Confronted by Sharn guard, attempted to parlay with them, escaped by means of another passing elemental vessel. No major injuries reported, however, some public relation issues with Sharn guard may need to be addressed.

Client: Captain Nathan d’Lyrandar
Details: Captain Nathan d’Lyrandar commands a small militia in an as-of-yet unnamed settlement just outside of Sharn; commissioned S.P.I.R.E. to investigate a recent attack on commissioned stonemasons and militia guard at a local abandoned/ruined watch tower. No details yet as to what the Captain’s intentions at above watch tower are.

Reports:
Date: Eyre 14th, 998 YK
Location: Unnamed Settlement, Breland
Synopsis of Risk: The Meanwhiles arrived in response to Captain Nathan d’Lyrandar’s letter to S.P.I.R.E., as instructed by myself and Michael Mallory. They were informed of situation at neighboring watchtower, reports of members of a primarily Sharn-based gang, the Bloody Knights having been responsible for the ambush, accompanied by undead. Given Sorik Orvash as a guide, the Meanwhiles set out to investigate the tower.

Location: Ruins of “Goldenhawk” Watchtower, Breland
Synopsis of Risk: Arriving at the ruined tower, the Meanwhiles ambushed the Bloody Knights, forcing them to fight on S.P.I.R.E.’s terms; however, rumors of undead fighting with the otherwise typical Sharn gang had proven to be true, with the re-animated remains of the fallen militia joining the fray. Slowly pushing the gang back towards the tower, the Meanwhiles succeeded in waylaying the gang, going so far as to drop one of them down into the base of the tower. Sorik, their guide, advised that below the tower lie the foundations of the tower, which other Bloody Knights may lay in ambush. Dwarven stonemason Tarjin Stoneheart was rescued in the midst of combat. No major injuries reported.

Reports:
Date: Eyre 14th, 998 YK
Location: Depths, Sharn, Breland
Details: Kos rejoined (call-sign), in the Depths; having been spotted in his decent, a number of members of the Order of the Emerald Claw followed him below; Bastion went to engage the Emerald Claw, promptly found himself lost. (call-sign) set up ambush to waylay pursuers. Engaged in same location as above synopsis. All threats subdued; released a number of Emerald Claw agents after encounter. No major injuries reported.

Location: Depths (Abandoned Shrine to the Shadow), Sharn, Breland
Details: Delving further into the shrine, (call-sign) claims to have temporary breached into the Shadowfell (Mabar, specifically). Navigated a maze of shadow-stuffs successfully, thanks to training in matters religious. Upon finding center of the labyrinth, discovered lockbox with writings indicating death of the Sovereign known as the Shadow; also implies artifact might be found at a location dubbed “Tower of the Art” (a note here; perhaps in reference to Sovereign Aureon?). Acquired contents of the box, including three potions and religious icon of the Shadow.

Location: Depths (Abandoned Shrine to the Shadow), Sharn, Breland
Details: Further still into the aforementioned shrine, (call-sign) witnessed particularly violent deaths of unidentified cultists. A creature of umbral nature violently decapitated one subject, another dying upon attempted escape from said creature. Utilizing a small sanctified section of the shrine, (call-sign) defended themselves against the umbral giant. No major injuries reported.

Location: Depths (Sewers), Sharn, Breland
Details: Kos parts ways with (call-sign) to report to myself personally. The remainder of (call-sign) discovers shrine gives way to Sharn sewer system; exploring, they discover a number of interesting, but non-case related scenes (underground mushroom garden, location of possible escaped undead creature, shallow grave with otyughs, cultists). (call-sign) encounters a member of the Red Jackals (name not given; shifter, female) (a note here, noting that some members are perhaps too trusting), who is contracted to be a guide toward aforementioned “Tower of the Art”.

Location: Depths (Tower of the Art, Lower Levels), Sharn, Breland
Details: As-of-yet unnamed Red Jackal guide leads (call-sign) to what is reported to be an entrance to the “Tower of the Art”; gaining entrance through sheer single-minded force (a note here, simply stating “Ironwood, subtly”) (call-sign) finds themselves in an apparent mausoleum. (call-sign), as well as their newly found Red Jackal guest are nearly overcome by the inhabitants of this mausoleum (a number of ghouls, as well as some manner of undead that spat vitriolic ooze and a particularly ill-preserved dog). However, much in thanks to my training, (call-sign) is triumphant. No major injuries reported; however, (call-sign) found it appropriate to take the opportunity to use this mausoleum as a temporary base of operations to recuperate from their mission thus far, and formulate new plans.

Client: (name withheld)
Synopsis of Risk: (withheld)

Reports:
Date: Eyre 12th, 998 YK
Location: Fallen District, Sharn, Breland
Details: S.P.I.R.E. groups the Bad News and the Meanwhiles cooperated in the last leg of their investigation for (name withheld). Agents used ambush tactics to confront the now identified thieves of (name withheld)’s possessions [a flying elemental vessel that also served as (name withheld)’s stage, as well as a manuscript]. The identified thieves, members of the local gang dubbed “Macabre Theatre”, did not immediately surrender; agents defended themselves appropriately. No major injuries to employees, however, (name withheld)’s elemental vessel was damaged after the thieves had been subdued, as no agents were learned in the piloting of such a vessel. Elemental did not escape from the vessel in question.

Payment has been received from (name withheld) and the possessions have been returned; case is considered closed.

Client: Yazeth Zephyrus
Synopsis of Risk: Mr. Yazeth Zephyrus is a devout follower of Aureon; approached S.P.I.R.E. concerned with both his son’s (Kerstol Zephyrus) safety, and rumors which aforementioned son provided to him, in the form of a letter. Rumors consisted of unsavory characters exploring the Depths below Highwall in search of an as of yet unnamed magical artifact. Sent S.P.I.R.E. group (space held for team call-sign).

Reports:
Date: Eyre 14th, 998 YK
Location: Highwall District, Sharn, Breland
Details: The Bad News tracked down Kerstol Zephyrus; had violent encounter with members of local gang known as “Bloody Knights” after finding Kerstol. Aggressors subdued, no major injuries reported. Kerstol is associated with “Bloody Knights”, which was the point of our clients concern, but did not partake in the fray.

With information given by Kerstol, agents of the Bad News were able to gather information through various means from the local populace to determine rumored location of aforementioned magical artifact. This placed them into the Depths.

Location: Depths below Highwall District, Sharn, Breland
Details: Delving into Depths, agents of the Bad News were able to find clues that suggested rumors of aforementioned magical artifact may hold some merit; namely a shrine dedicated to The Shadow. Reports indicate that magical creatures attacked our agents without provocation. Agents subdued threats. No major injuries reported.

"Books" Announcement

I cannot contain my annoyance at how long it takes this hired scribe to finish his reports, nor can I any longer tolerate his editorial in regards to the actions of S.P.I.R.E. and its employees. He has been fired. I shall personally be posting the reports with appropriately attached documents from this point forward.

So as not to make this announcement completely negative, I shall now post the accrual of “perk points”.

Bastion Vice: 3
Echelon Thrice: 6
Nocturne: 6
Kos: 3
Rayan: 3

I shall be introducing a formal list of benefits that employees of S.P.I.R.E. might take part of with aforementioned “perk points” soon.

Mr. Kirsdarken, please confirm the correct spelling of your first name so that I might correct our records accordingly, and please keep future reports as tidy as possible.

Kos' Report (from the field)

To whom it may concern,

It took only minimal effort for me to locate their trail through the streets of Sharn (I really must discuss this with Nocturne as he has typically been much better at hiding his tracks), and I followed it down into the bowels of the city to an ancient temple to find the entire crew well entrenched into doing nothing. Unfortunately, I was not the only one to follow their trail and I quickly rallied the troops to setup an ambush for whatever else followed the trail.

As we prepared, I noticed the reaction speed of my compatriots to be less than adequate. I will make an effort to work on this with them at every opportunity. As the footfalls neared, a little tune escaped my lips, my eagerness for combat slipping through my lips. When the creatures following came down the stairs, the first thing that caught my eye were the insignias of The Emerald Claw and the human that I quickly determined to be the leader wore a holy symbol of The Blood of Vol. I’m sure I don’t need to mention to you what this means.

The followers were dispatched in a timely order, though several of my fellows found difficulty landing their attacks. Thankfully, the songs of old were with me and I was able to catch the leader as he fled back the way he came. Once his minions were dispatched, we took a quick inventory of the corpses, though only the holy symbol was interesting (it was secured in our belongings for potential future use).

From this, we moved into a room that turned out to be a maze of shadows that seemed to sap our very strength. We all worked together, recalling what bits and pieces we knew of the Shadow to make our path through to the end. There, we found a small chest that was easily opened. Inside, it contained a prayer book, a holy symbol dedicated to the Shadow, and a pair of gloves. I felt it best to handle the holy symbol and prayer book myself, which I will bring back for further study. Once the chest was opened, returning to the previous area was quite simple, and we went down the other corridor.

We reached a room containing several corpses, two live humans, and a multi-limbed creature of pure shadow. Taking in the surroundings, I noticed a large section of consecrated ground in the room, which I warned my companions about, and a shadowy corner near the creature. Unfortunately, the humans did not survive our initial survey of the room, though we dispatched the creature with relative ease (Personal Note: Some of my companions are in dire need of training in combat). From here, the other companions moved on down the corridor while I investigated the consecrated grounds (see my attached notes, pages 5 through 23).

Yours in Service, Kos
